Formed in 1991 by a group of local artists and patrons, the Creede Arts Council's mission has always been to create a visible and vibrant arts atmosphere in the community.

A key part of this mission has been commissioning and purchasing public art. Two years after our founding, we commissioned a mural by local artist Stephen Quiller. Later, a generous land donation became the Seaborn Collins Memorial Art Park, a downtown pocket park that features several sculptures, a mural by SLV artist Charles Ewing, and a banner celebrating local artists' work. Filled with trees and seasonal plants, the park has become a favorite quiet spot, and the mural, "After the Fall," is a popular backdrop for family photos.

Our commitment to public art extends beyond the park. We've installed sculptures in prominent locations like the courthouse and a local church. This effort has even inspired others to add sculptures to their own properties. We also plan to assist with finding new artwork to display as part of the Creede sidewalk improvement project.

Inspired by these initiatives, a local stone carver donated his "Moonface" sculptures, which were carved from rocks used in the Days of '92 Mining Competition. Thanks to the efforts of a CAC board member, these unique pieces were installed in Basham Park and the Creede Visitor Center.

The Creede Arts Council is a 501(c)3 organization. Donations are tax-deductible up to the amount allowed by law.
