The Creede Arts Council presents the Mountain Shoot-Out Regional Photography Show from July 13th through July 25th at the Creede Chamber of Commerce Building at 904 S. Main Street in Creede. The opening night reception is on Friday, July 13th from 5pm to 7:30pm.
The Mountain Shoot Out is a juried show open to photographers inColorado. This year, forty-four photographs were submitted, representing fifteen artists including one student entry. Forty one of the photos were chosen for the show.
The judge this year is Joe Zinn (www.zinnphotography.com). Mr. Zinn wanted to be sure to not discourage anyone from taking photographs but to allow this to be a learning experience. His main point, for anyone taking pictures, is to find the emotion for a photograph and to keep taking pictures, keep trying. Since this is a juried show, Mr. Zinn did eliminate a few photos, and as far as his process for judging, he tries to make this as objective a process as possible by using a 100 point scale giving up to 30 points for technical execution, 30 points for compositional elements and 40 points for emotional impact, stating that often the emotional impact of a photo can make up for a less-than perfect picture. The emotional impact comes in the form of “If I can understand the photo, even if I do not know where it is.” What is being communicated, and was it successfully communicated?
First place in the show goes to Michael Underwood for “Big Dipper Over N. Clear Creek”. Second place goes to John Killip for “Rainbow Boats/Nepal Nov 2011”. And, third place goes to Dennis House for “Loneliness”.
The photography show is a great way to encourage photographers of all ability: student, amateur, professional. Many of the photos are for sale, though you do not need to buy one to drop by the chamber office and visit the show, Come by to support our artists and see what makes Creede so special!
